I currently do not own a home, but am working and saving money for my first income property/home. We're thinking of a duplex, triplex, or possibly a home with a basement suite where we would live in one of the units for a few years before buying another home for ourselves (3 year plan). Just wondering what is the best way to structure ownership of rental properties in general, and this type of arrangement in particular. Should I own the home personally, set up a holding company of some sort? How do you own most of your investment properties?
